The shooting of The World Is Not Enough in part Spain : to Los Callejonesnorth-east of Madrid (the religious sanctuary that Elektra preserves), then in the Basque countrywith Bilbao for the beginning of the film, and finally in the Bardenas Reales70 km south of Pamplona, for the exteriors of the nuclear storage silo supposed to be in Kazakhstan.
Leave in the footsteps of Christmas Jones and James Bond in Navarra, is to ensure a total change of scenery, only 2h30 from the French Basque Country.
Las Bardenas Reales – Tudela (Navarra)
Loyalty: ★★★★ – Access: ★☆☆
Identifiable when the film was released, the place was referenced by the community a few years ago. A very nice report by Uwe Brosamle has made it possible to locate in advance the exact site of the shooting.
The Bardenas Reales are a semi-desert natural park, renowned for its unique geological formations. Classified biosphere reserve by UNESCO Since 2000, they have been largely protected as a natural park. A military firing range (Polígono de Tiro) occupies part of the territory, which regularly causes debate, as the presence of military personnel in a protected area is incongruous. It probably helped production to privatize space, including to turn many explosions.
On the spot, we must not rely on the « prohibitions » tourist reception: everything is easily accessible, and tourists walk with respect in this incredible place. To reach the shooting sites, turn left at the intersection of the military base and drive about 3 km, just before the famous Castildetierra, also visible in Game of Thrones (kingdom of Dorne).
The first, The arrival of Bond in Jeep, is located directly on the main road. The second, The entrance to the silo, is to the right of the house : here, everything is decor... after verification there is nothing left on site 😉 Finally, the silo exit hatch is 500 m, lightly overhanged, and it is very simple to find.
Contrary to popular ideas, it's not so hot... and there is a lot of wind Hey! For once as a family in a filming place, everyone took pleasure in treading this place as atypical as it is amazing.
